Terms of Service
Effective 19 June 2026
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Wherabouts website, dashboard, and APIs. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.
Agreement to terms
By accessing or using Wherabouts, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you are using the service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and 'you' refers to that organization.
The service
Wherabouts provides location and geocoding APIs and related tools. We may add, change, or discontinue features over time, and we will make reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes that affect your use.
Accounts and API keys
You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. You are responsible for all activity under your account and API keys.
Keep your API keys confidential. Treat them like passwords, do not embed them in public client-side code, and notify us promptly at security@wherabouts.com if you believe a key has been compromised so it can be rotated.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the service for any unlawful purpose, to disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, or to exceed or circumvent applicable rate limits.
You may not resell or redistribute bulk data except as expressly permitted, and you may not use geocoding results to harass, stalk, or unlawfully surveil individuals.
Fees and billing
Wherabouts is offered on a usage-based model. Current pricing, including any free allotment and per-request rates, is published on our Pricing page. Paid usage is metered per request and billed monthly through our payment processor, Stripe.
You are responsible for applicable taxes. If a payment fails, we may suspend or limit access until the balance is resolved.
Data sources and attribution
Our address and location data is derived from authoritative sources, including the Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF) for Australia and other licensed datasets for international coverage. Your use of results may be subject to the attribution and usage requirements of those underlying datasets, and you agree to comply with them.
Intellectual property
Wherabouts and its software, content, and trademarks are owned by us or our licensors. You retain ownership of the data you submit, and you grant us the limited license needed to process that data to provide the service.
Disclaimers
The service is provided 'as is' and 'as available'. Geocoding and routing results may be approximate or incomplete, and we make no warranty that results will be accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose. You are responsible for validating results before relying on them in critical contexts.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Wherabouts will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, and our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Wherabouts harmless from claims arising out of your use of the service in violation of these terms or applicable law.
Termination
You may stop using the service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these terms or use the service in a way that risks harm to others or to the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts located in Australia will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
